Washer extractors for hotels and hospitals: a buyer's guide
How to size an on-premise laundry, and when to choose rigid-mounted, soft-mounted or barrier washers.

An on-premise laundry gives hotels and hospitals control over linen quality, turnaround and cost. The key is choosing the right machines.
Calculate your daily load
Estimate kilograms of linen per day: rooms × occupancy × kg per room (sheets, towels, pillowcases), plus restaurant linen and uniforms. Divide by the number of cycles you can run per day to find the washer capacity you need.
Rigid or soft-mounted?
Rigid-mounted normal-spin washers are cost-effective but must be bolted to a solid floor. Soft-mounted high-spin washers absorb vibration, can be installed on upper floors and extract more water, which shortens drying time and saves energy.
Barrier washers for infection control
Hospitals benefit from hygienic barrier washers, which load on the soiled side and unload on the clean side to prevent cross-contamination.
Match dryers and ironers
Dryers should be about 1.3–1.5 times the washer capacity so they keep pace. Flatwork ironers make sheet finishing fast and consistent.
